Hi guys,
Just picked up my first Buell (a 2003 XB9 lightening) last weekend.
The previous owner used Motul 4T 20w50 fully synthetic and I plan to carry on using it unless anybody thinks this is a bad idea?
Should I use this in the primary as well?
Also, I didn't notice it on the test ride but, the seat seems to slide forwards & backward about 1/2" when latched, all of the hooks look engaged. Is this normal?
Thanks in advance and I gratefully receive any mockery for the stupid questions.

Hi, glad to hear that you've joined the scheme for punishment. There's some excellent blokes on here full of knowledge about these things. I actually use Amsoil as in here :-
http://www.harley-performance.com/harle ... n-oil.html
I use this in all the holes on the bike and it changes gear nicely and all that. I have stuck with the stock oil filter from Riders in Bristol, they will give you a discount if you mention that your UKBEG. The stores help is excellent from them. As for the seat perhaps the rear catch is a little out of line or bent, comes from smuggling too many pies under hard acceleration. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Welcome though all :yup: the same.

welcome ...tyre & oil questions in tech... :uhoh:
lOl
synthetic oil in a low revving ohv engine, is a bit over the top to be honest
I run mine on John Deer diesel engine oil (same spec as HD recommend )
it's your money but I would just stick to standard spec.
also be aware some gear box oils , have been suspected of causing insulation failure of the stator :yup:

That's the 20w50 fully synthetic variety, sorry about that. It ain't cheap but it ain't blown up. (Yet)
There are quite a few threads on this, so your next purchase should be a tin hat and full body armour.
"I know because I was there"
FFS don't ask about tyre pressures until you've purchased the above protection :!:
:old:

Aw come on Mr Nutah, I know they are quite an agricultural engine but going all posh with JD oil :hehe:
We used that in one of our dredge pump engines and it did nearly 250,000 hours before it threw a rod in anger when the pump jacked in and it gained a few too many RPM like about three times what it should have. Good oil as long as its kept checked and changed, you don't see many dead JD's about. :yup:

The pictures of the Heli engine, but I like it. There again I like my S21 Bridgestones too.
Just off to put my body armour on and tin hat. :yup:

Thanks Tadpole, my catch is mounted vertically (push down the latch), should it be mounted horizontally then? (push forward to latch).
N.B. There's no risk of the seat flying off as there are many many pies holding it down. :eat:

Hey Nutah, one two three and you're back in the room. Only a few more revs on board unless its ridden by a Kiwi :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Still like the oil. :yup:
