Having not managed to purchase the previous bike -
thoughts on one of these, Ulysses XB12X.

I was after a tuber but these look like a good buy?

Both brilliant when well sorted but xb lot more expensive on major repair and prob not as durable. Plus spares will become more rare

Forget it, buy a late M2, cheap and a bike for a lifetime.

If you want a tuber get a tuber. A Ulysses, however good it is, is no replacement.

If you want a very comfortable touring bike with a big chunk of character as an alternative to a Yamaha/BMW/Kawasaki etc.. the Uly is the bike for you.

My Ulysses is a brilliant bike and the first choice for pretty much everything but I'm far more attached to my S2 and still kicking myself over selling my X1.

Another aspect is the handling. Having an S1 and an XB12S The S1 is heavier and the weight is higher up specially with the 'manta' tank. with a full tank it can feel quite top heavy. It handles well but is better in constant radius corners where it feels 'settled'. The XB with its shorter wheel base steeper head angle lighter weight and more importantly lower C of G is superb for launching into corner if thats your sort of thing. You just don't shut the throttle, brilliant in flip flop corners. Having stripped both down to a bare engine the tuber is easier to work on the engine but removing the swing arm is a pain in the arse. The XB is a pain in the arse to work on the engine but the swing arm removal is a doddle. The front end removal is pretty much the same on both. It'll help if you are a bit of a short arse if you want an XBS/R but not a uly or an XBSS. If i had to get rid of one of them it would be the XB. It's up to you, or like quite a few on here get one of each and have the best of both words

I think I need to try before buying, at 6 ft tall I think the Uly may be the way to go.

I'm 6ft too, I've had my M2 for 15 years and I f@kin love the thing, it's a proper motorbike and not for the faint hearted and IMHO not for the mechanically retarded,
it's not the fastest bike on the road nor even the best handling thing out there but it'll put a mile wide grin on yer kisser every day off the week
That's just my 2 bawbee's worth

I've never owned a fuller though, I only rode a Fireblot once and didn't like it.....again amigo opinions are like arseholes, hopefully you make the right choice for you
