Hello Guys and gals,
couple of things -
Since the bike came back on the road again this year I have been suffering from petrol pissing out of the tank vent when I fill it up (easy answer don't put so much petrol in then :hehe: , reality is I am currently not getting enough miles to the tank as it is without reducing it further). Its a 97 so it has the old style breather on it (can be upgraded, but the old breather never behaved like this before), I have got one of the American fuel cap fixes on mine (if this is the issue, the APH version is probably the answer). Alternative thoughts/ suggestions/ offers on new style breathers please.

In an attempt to increase my miles per tank, I plan on increasing the gearing slightly, I have the required pulleys, just looking for a good Buell rear pulley cover to fit a standard UK pulley. Will happily pay or swap for a like new (currently fitted to my bike) rear pulley cover for a US pulley (or other bits) - Currently rear US, front UK changing to UK rear, front US.

Graeme, sounds like the ball in the breather is stuck.
But what miles/tankful are you getting? ...or expecting?
I have a '98 with small tank and razor seat. I'm on full US gearing, have only two throttle positions, and still get a reliable 100+ miles to reserve (on V-Power, natch). At that point my a*se needs a rest, so I'm only too happy to stop to refuel.
Do you have an iron a*se or is your mpt really that much worse than mine?

If you raise the gearing you ruin the bike. Buy a used manta type tank from a 99 to 02 bike, more fuel.

Is it just going on to reserve too early or totally running out of fuel? I seem to remember there being a discrepancy in the length of the reserve tube on the fuel tap on some bikes.

...and in this instance, if you change the tank you ruin the bike
It's meant to be skinny!

Hi,
had this bike from new -
full UK gearing (air filter/ exhaust upgraded) ~135 miles to reserve (riding carefully or not)
Went 1/2 US (rear pulley), revs out in top, more lively :yup: ~ 115 miles to reserve
Went full US, tuned by Tubbs (mid 80's BHP/Torque :) ), Holtworks tank (petrol tap from old tank) - the first tank of fuel (back on the road) hit reserve at 60 miles! :?
Changed back to 1/2 US, first run out was to Northants V Twin last weekend and achieved 80 miles (at a constant 80 on dual carriage ways) before reserve. :headbang: still not enough tank range
I always used to do 100 miles then refuel (knowing I had something in the tank if needed), just trying to get back there.
Maybe the Holtworks tank is smaller (not heard this from anyone else).

Don't beat about the bush Maz ;) , that was my initial thought, but that fuel does not seem to end up in the cases or oil tank, Fuel tank vent leaks only when the tank is full, must be burning it I guess.

I've got a brand new recall vent if you want one. Bought it because I thought mine was missing a bit, but I found it in the bottom of the tank (in hindsight, where else could it have been :oooops: )
