I see we get a discount from Opie Oils. Was wondering which is the best 20/50 to get from this selection:
http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-785-20w-50-engine-oils.aspx
Thought Harley were supposed to be cheap for oil, phoned and they want £35 for 4 litres of 20/50 mineral, and they're a long way from me.
Does synthetic really make it run cooler? As I've read somewhere.

Also is this a good replacement for Harley Formula+
http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-859-silkolene-v-twin-80w-90-semi-synthetic-gear-oil.aspx

Not wanting to start an oil thread, just wanting to be sure before I order in bulk!

cheers

There have been many long discussions on oil in the past ie mineral versus synthetic, different grades etc. As there are big tolerances in the air cooled engines we use when measured against a modern water cooled engine, and the rev limit that we are governed to its best to use a 'gloopy' 20w 50w mineral oil. If you use a 'thin' fully synthetic ie 0w 40w mobil 1 it really will sound like biscuit tin full of nuts and bolts. A good quality 20w 50w mineral diesel engine oil will do the job just as well as hd stuff
A semi synthetic will also do the job. I run my xb on this http://www.opieoils.co.uk/pv-121940-mil ... GwodpmoM1w now HD are trying to bleed their customers dry. Others will be along to air their views soon. Hope this helps

With the transmission oils as well as being suitable for the gearbox and the clutch make sure it is compatible with the stator as there has been reports of stator insulation failing when used with some oils.

My stator lunched and I'm connecting that with deviating from Formula +

Formula+ went up to 15 quid but now it's dropped back to 10 pound and change :? Not often HD prices drop. I only put this in the transmission. It's copper winding friendly and there is almost zero metallic powder on the sump plug :yup:

Think I'll stick to Formula+ then.
I see Opie oils has 15% off this weekend.
That link from Daveh looks a good price: http://www.opieoils.co.uk/pv-121940-mil ... GwodpmoM1w
their website doesn't come up with that oil when a search by viscosity is done.
