Which unfortunatly will affect the second hand dramatically. With no spares backup i'd put it in the livingroom and just look at it. At least the small plate can go back on in the livingroom :?

If it came from a dealer then she still has consumer rights. They have to fix it should it go wrong regardless of the manufacturer. The deal was with them not EBR?

Buelliedan is not providing the actual situation. Way more complicated than what has been stated. Certainly we here at EBR made a lot mistakes BUT there is plenty of blame to spread around on this. Likely that the whole story will not be told until after the Chapter 128 thing is resolved.

What Maz said - Erik is a shite businessman. Will this latest escapade destroy his credibility with his loyal supporters and any new purchasers? People buy Buells, no matter what type, with their hearts more than their heads....
... I'm hoping that Hero or someone will step in to pick it up and continue to support the brand.

I agree Erik is more engineer than businessman, but the problem is that people just don't buy Buells (or at least, not enough of them do).
I think it unlikely that Hero will step in to help, when it appears that their pulling the plug on funding has precipitated this closure. EBR have applied to the court for protection from creditors, but I honestly can't see Erik Buell coming back from this as a motorcycle manufacturer in his own right.

It's not the most perfectly turned out bike and in truth the finish is typical Buell, no real attention to detail. It looks like they're done all that with the running gear, no bad thing I guess. But the mainstream bikes have everything right and are a much safer bet. Which is why there's loads of the things on the road - very common one might say :D

I've always compared Erik to Colin Chapman of Lotus, with a design philosophy obsessively focused on light weight and fine handling, often to the detriment of reliabilty and finish (I'm thinking here of single disc brakes that fade with hard use; ridiculously small wheel bearings that need to be replaced virtually at every oil change; crap steering head bearings; flimsy plastic and poor wheel castings on the EBR bikes, etc). This cannot be blamed on Hero or, as has frequently been the case, on Erik's former "partners" at the MoCo. Lotus gained a reputation as being Loads Of Trouble, Usually Serious. I've not heard of a similar acronym for Buell or EBR. Maybe "Early Bearing Replacement"?

I really feel for Steve - I hope things work out for you, mate.

I think the previous road test in Bike said something about the buying public. Both the testers said that the EBR 1190 was the better bike to ride, but that they would buy the Ducati! :headbang:

It's a similar story with my Buell. None of the gang I often socialise with have ever ridden a Buell and cite concerns about vibration or longevity. This is in spite of the fact that I have covered more miles on the XB9 than any 2 of their bikes put together.

After 7 years of ownership I gave a friend a 70 mile pillion ride on back of my XB so he could to pick up his latest bike buy. He was amazed at how smooth and how well the XB ran, and he said he now understood why I liked the bike.
Ironically I did offer to let him ride my XB 7 years ago.

People are a fickle lot. No-one likes to take a risk on being different. Buell was and maybe still is ahead of the game and perhaps created the current game (see how much is copied. Other brands will filter in Buellesque ideas here and there), but Erik still doesn't get the credit he deserves. :?

Pot? Kettle? Black?

You know I love you to bits man, but if you keep on selling spares at the price they cost you at the time, then complain that the price to replace your stock has gone up and wonder why you are not making any profit, you need to take a good hard look at your business plan.

If any client of mine insisted on this model, I'd tell them to fold the business now. Its as daft as Loxton setting up as a bike buy/sell concern and then insisting that he can't sell a bike for more than it cost him to buy. Its nuts.

I'm posting this publically because I know you won't change unless we all give you a thorough kicking and make you take a long hard look.

Short term, what you offer to customers is brilliant. They can't get these parts at your prices anywhere else. Long term, you are heading down the mystic toilet with no way out until and unless you get a grip on business reality.

I am not going to apologise for posting this - it needed to be said.#

Dave
