What Maz said - Erik is a shite businessman. Will this latest escapade destroy his credibility with his loyal supporters and any new purchasers? People buy Buells, no matter what type, with their hearts more than their heads....
... I'm hoping that Hero or someone will step in to pick it up and continue to support the brand.
I agree Erik is more engineer than businessman, but the problem is that people just
don't buy Buells (or at least, not
enough of them do).
I think it unlikely that Hero will step in to help, when it appears that their pulling the plug on funding has precipitated this closure. EBR have applied to the court for protection from creditors, but I honestly can't see Erik Buell coming back from this as a motorcycle manufacturer in his own right.

It's not the most perfectly turned out bike and in truth the finish is typical Buell, no real attention to detail. It looks like they're done all that with the running gear, no bad thing I guess. But the mainstream bikes have everything right and are a much safer bet. Which is why there's loads of the things on the road - very common one might say
I've always compared Erik to Colin Chapman of Lotus, with a design philosophy obsessively focused on light weight and fine handling, often to the detriment of reliabilty and finish (I'm thinking here of single disc brakes that fade with hard use; ridiculously small wheel bearings that need to be replaced virtually at every oil change; crap steering head bearings; flimsy plastic and poor wheel castings on the EBR bikes, etc). This cannot be blamed on Hero or, as has frequently been the case, on Erik's former "partners" at the MoCo. Lotus gained a reputation as being Loads Of Trouble, Usually Serious. I've not heard of a similar acronym for Buell or EBR. Maybe "Early Bearing Replacement"?
I really feel for Steve - I hope things work out for you, mate.
