Phoned up Riders of Bristol for an oil filter, they were happy to send me one but as I was passing Bridgewater last week I picked up one of the above from their partner shop, they said its the only one they stock for tubers/sportsers. Fitted it, not started it yet, read on google that it needs higher pump pressure. Should I be happy to use it, Harley reckon its better as its a premium type :?:

Interestingly I currently use a 63812-90 which is longer but, IIRC, has the same 'mesh' size as yours, but has a larger surface area.

Larger surface area, would that need more or less oil pump pressure ?
If a filter needs a higher pressure does it mean higher pressure on the wearing parts of the pump? Only asking as I haven't got round to fitting the Lucky Hands pump yet.

More pressure = more load...

More surface area with the same screen size would allow more oil to flow through at any given pressure, A filter with less surface area could potentially cause an increase in load on the pump if what the pump was trying to move couldn't get through.

Would a hiflo oil filter be less wear on the pump, what about a thinner oil for winter ?

Cheers for the offer Tubbs, unfortunately I've fitted it already. Started but not been out for a ride yet, for an extra tenner think I'll just buy a 63805-80A or what you recommend. Salisburys not too far from me :yup:

Warming the motor before caning it is very important this weather. Mine never go WFO before 10 miles are done.
