Hello,
since there is coming to a close, I wanted to ask one thing:
disturbs it during painting when the tank is polished? I want a body polish, then taping with words "American Motorcycle", painting, writing away and then should the lettering polished with depth effect with clear coat again be painted again.
possibly anyone has experience with it?
Thank you

So, you want to have the tank:
Polished all over
Masked partially (lettering)
Colour painted all over
Masking removed to reveal polished lettering
Clear coated all over
Is your concern that the paint and/or the clear coat won't adhere to the polished aluminium?
Can any of the old Brit bike brigade remember if this was an issue with the part painted part chromed tanks on BSAs etc...?

I visited a very reputable bike painting up here in the northeast and had a lengthy discussion about options regarding my Holt manta tank when I get.

My tank will be polished and I'm hoping to come up with a design where parts of the tank will remain in the polished state. The idea of having the original style tank logo painted over and then removed to show the letters as polished was looked at, the painters concern was that the smaller letters that are in "American Motorcycles" would be too small, spraying a number of coats over these small letters and then removing the decal material may risk not getting a clean edge on these small letters.

There are billions of things that can be done but everyone always want something that can't be done :? why is that
To be honest, I would think this could be done if the paint was kept thin, it is being laquered after.

Why not polish it then use a vinyl sticker, it'll still look tits.

I've got a Empire Star tank with chrome sections and painted hanging in the barn. As you would expect, where some of the paint has rubbed through underneath, you can see chrome. I suppose the key is in using an etch primer :?
