Fourth'd!

As a technical biff, I have first hand experience of how much a clueless stealer can stuff you and your pride and joy. Get that bike back and get it to someone trustworthy - NOW!!!!

Panther, I dont know what arrangement you've come to over the total cost of this work but I would imagine that the price of a new loom and the labour to fit same would exceed the value of your bike ? (what's Guildfords hourly rate ?)
If the dealer has identified a fault in the loom, then surely they know exactly where that fault is or at least which circuit is affected.......it's only wires and they are easily replaced, repaired or by-passed

.....I still reckon the loom on your bike is not the problem :?

the saga continues......................................................................................................................................Hi Sergio

I have spoken to the Buell specialist about your email and concerns.

The wiring around the headstock has already been stripped back to check for the usual chaffing, but that part of your loom is absolutely fine.

What we will do is get your bike back in the workshop and strip all the loom out and dismantle and check for faults, as we are going to need the loom out to fit the new one when it arrives anyway.

We have experienced similar problems with Buell looms before and rectifying any chaffed wires has resulted in repeat issues, making it necessary to replace the loom to rectify the fault.

The cost of the replacement loom and fitting would normally out weigh the task of stripping and repairing the loom, but I also understand that your bike has been with us for longer than both of us would want and I will certainly look on the invoice favourably for you.

Hopefully I will have some better news next week when the loom is stripped.

Kind Regards
..........................................by the way maz its not guildford hd.the location of the dealer is still a secret till i get my bike back

update....went to visit my bike today, the dealer repairing it has decided it is not the wiring after all they got the bike to start but there is a lot of mechanical noise from the timing side and the rear of the cam position sensor looks like it has got very hot and there are traces of metal shavings on it.they are going to take the timing cover off to inspect further[oil pump failure maybe?]i have decided on an amount of money i am willing to spend on this bike and if it goes over i will have to bite the bullet and scrap it.watch this space :sad1:

Are you serious??? after all that it's not the wiring and just fund metal on the engine??? and you still left your bike in there??? And in the end you are going to pay them your "have decided amount of money" for destroying your bike??? :o

I would have thought that the cam position sensor signal would have been one of the first things they'd check they'd got for an engine that wouldn't run ...........easy job to get to and if it shows signs of melting would have led them to check further into it straight away ............is the noise because the timing has slipped or a definite mech noise? could the filings if you're lucky be from the sensor trigger loose and rubbed ?

Time to go "trading standards" on their ass
Tell them you'll name and shame and post your story all over the harley interweb world.

Or -my favourite- the Delia recipe, cowboys like these prey on older bike owners,I know a couple of dealership mechanics who will happily tell tales of how they told a customer that their pride and joy was worth less than the parts required to fix it.They "buy it" to settle the outstandings, then lo and behold fix it!

Never ever go to a dealership for anything other than warranty work-even then they'll try to empty your pockets with magically appearing loopholes.Like my wife's melted clutch on a brand new speedmaster-" she must have been riding it too hard!We can't cover that" it had got hot enough to bubble the ali on the basket and pressure plate, but damn right it had been ridden hard, ain't that what they're for????
Dealers????....STEALERS :!:
