Just been doing some work on my VTR track bike and noticed the rear tyre has turned a very dark blue. There's no cold tearing or balling up on the sipes, so I don't think it's pressure (32psi cold) - fairly high for a modern track tyre, or suspension issue - just revalved and set up by an expert (ie not me lOl ). Is this fairly a normal release of oils from the 'rubber' used, (they do slide a bit if you get silly) or is something up with the tyre and it needs to be binned? :?

I've noticed a blue tinge on my tyres pretty often, it seems to be more prevalent in strong sunlight so might be UV related, also seems more noticeable the longer the bike is left stood between rides. Neer noticed it affect grip. :?

Like yours, only on the edges going in about 1 1/2". I cover up the tyres, on paddock stands, with insulation to keep the warm(ish) between sessions, but you could be onto something here.

The bike's kept inside, except when at the track, so I don't think it's UV in this case.

From both your replys, it seems as if it's not uncommon, but it's not happened to my 'wets' that get much hotter on a drying track.

I'll stop worrying now 8-)

(perhaps it's the fumes from the Superglued split that prevents it happening to these lOl lOl)

Just normal colouring as the tyres heat cycle... nothing to worry about.

You'd turn blue, too, if you held your air as long as your tyres.
