Washed the XB9R last night and on the way to work this morning the speedo stopped working. Is it likely to be related? Are there any simple things to check before fearing the worst? Advice appreciated :)

Short of advising you not to wash it again, no, sorry ;)

Check the speed sensor wiring behind the front pulley cover, sounds like the wire has worn through, washing it has caused shorting on the gearbox.

Thanks Woz. Took it apart last night and no sign of any problems. Cleaned the head of the sensor....no change. Power is getting to the instrument pod so guess it's going to be a bit more expensive than first hoped. The bike has done 10k....is now't on it built to last :?: :x

You will need a new VSS and rewire its feed to take 5V from the CPS.

:x

VSS = vehicle speed sensor
5V = 5 volts
CPS = cam position sensor.

Dealer wont have a clue how to do this.
In the days when I used to do mail order, I sent a diagram out with speed sensors.....tis dead easy to do.

Did somebody not post this on the old,old site ?

As I did something similar when the M2 speedo packed up an got the voltage reg thingy from your good self which has stopped it happening again since the sensor now gets a good clean voltage supply
