Timed to mark the anniversary of the official start of motorcycle racing in the UK, at Brooklands on 20th April 1908. Riders of all sorts of machine, from the racers that competed in that very first race meeting up to the latest superbikes, are urged to come along and mark this historic date at the birthplace of British motorcycle racing. For pre-booked Club groups wanting to mark this Anniversary with a spring ride-out, there are special entry discounts available.
Attractions will include:
A specially invited entry of machines with a genuine Brooklands history and some historic record-breakers on display in the Paddock and demonstrated on the famous Test Hill and steep Members’ Banking;
Hundreds of other bikes lined up in Club displays – see names like Norton, Brough Superior, Harley Davidson, Triumph and many more;
Arena demonstrations of trials riding – by experts and even-more-expert youngsters!
A true challenge during the lunchbreak: to climb the Test Hill on pedal power alone (bring your own mountain bike)!
The chance for younger visitors (12-16 years old) to be "A Racer’s Mechanic" for the day – shadowing and assisting one of the riders of the historic demonstration machines;
In addition, there will be tasty food in our Sunbeam Cafe marquee (with a proper Bikers’ Barbecue for the true traditionalists), and appropriate music to give that special period Brooklands atmosphere.
The Brooklands Spring Motorcycle Gathering is an ideal destination for a Club spring ride. For pre-booked Club groups there will be £2 per person off our usual admission prices with a reserved parking area near to the Brooklands Paddock. Everybody arriving on a motorcycle, no matter of what age, make or size, will be able to park on the Museum site.
Gates open at 10:00 and the event will close at 17:00. Test Hill will be in operation between 11.00-12.00 and between 14.00 and 15.00.
Any young visitor wanting to be "A Racer's Mechanic" can apply by sending a letter, no more than 1 side of A4 saying why they want to be part of the Brooklands Motorcycle Race Scene. Send letters to "Racer's Mechanic", Brooklands Museum, Brooklands Road, Weybridge, Surrey KT13 0QN . Closing date for receipt of letters, Thursday 18th March. Those selected will be notified by post.
