Update on the memorial plaque which UKBEG donated in honour of Don’s (Nutah) grandfather and the crew of Lancaster JB284 who were killed in action on the 23rd November 1943.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the story behind this plaque; and our error with the wording on the original version, please see the main Ems Day topic here.

Last Saturday 8th April we visited the LAHC to exchange plaques. We posted the original plaque to Don on Monday 10th and he received it on Tuesday 11th.

As mentioned previously it isn’t convenient to have the plaque formally dedicated in the LAHC Memorial Chapel on Ems Day, Bank Holiday Monday 29th May. The dedication ceremony will now be carried out on Saturday 13th May, between 1.00 and 1.30pm.

Retired RAF Chaplain, Kevin Hart, will perform the dedication. Kevin was recently appointed Chaplain to the LAHC.

UKBEG members are welcome to attend the dedication if they wish. For those that can’t attend arrangements have been made for a respectful picture to be taken of the ceremony. Don has given his permission for the picture to be posted on this website.

Don, you're welcome.

We're still gutted we managed to make a mess of things initially but we're sure the memorial and dedication will do all the crew of JB284 justice :worthy:...

Yesterday’s memorial dedication to the crew of Lancaster JB284 was superb. We’d like to thank Andrew Panton of the LAHC and retired RAF Chaplain Kevin Hart for their help and support in putting the ceremony together. It was carried out with full military honours.

The Memorial Chapel was full for the ceremony, with four of us representing UKBEG.

We employed the services of Alan Markham, LAHC’s professional photographer, to record the occasion. The pictures will be available next Wednesday latest.
