Hi guys I thought I'd join up and see what the secret society of Buell is about ;)

I look forward to getting to know you all and sucking all the info I can out of you all and hopefully getting involved in some runs etc...although I do live at the end of the country )

About me ...I have taken years off bikes after a bad accident but after riding quads and converting a c90 type scooter last year I had been wanting to get back on a big bike again....always loved the aesthetics and had a soft spot for Buell and bought a 2400 mile as new 2003 xb9s lightning which now has a thumb. Brake , centrifugal clutch along with a lot of mods....anyway even tho my mates take the Micky out of my for riding a Harley and it's broken down already (belt) I totally love it and already have accepted that no matter the idiosyncrasies and dramas it may cause me it's well worth it for the riding experience which really exceeded my expectations and the amount of positive attention she draws )

So first question ....who can point me in the right direction for posts or advice on whether I upgrade to a 2004 driveline as I hear the 04 has a stronger belt but I need to change pulleys....are there aftermarket pulleys belts as it would be nice to run slightly taller gearing as she revs quite high at motorway speeds

Cheers Wobb

Hi Wobbly

Welcome!

Where abouts are you at the bottom of the island?

There are a few good rides Northwards on the schedule for next year, hopefully a few of us bottom dwellers can organize rolling up to those together :yup:

I am quite new here but they're all a good bunch and you'll find all the answers you need either from the history in forum (use the searchbox) or someone will be along soon :)

'hopefully a few of us bottom dwellers' - I haven't had enough coffee yet to even start processing the jokes this phrase throws in the air :rotfl:

Hi Wobb, may be worth your while getting in touch on here with Lotek. He has some 9 parts including a belt. Don't know him myself but replied asap,he'd just sold the bit I wanted. "Great condition belt, rear shock, calipers, bars,". May be worth a look. Yours sounds quite a fair mod setup. Cheers Tadpole :yup:

Hi Wobb,

First obvious question is do you have the free spirits tensioner fitted :?: If not, that's a priority.....

...and we don't have a secret handshake, it's quite an obvious handshake, if we've ridden too long at less than 3k rpm :P

Yep the tensioner was ordered the day the belt snapped )). I'm assuming they are like cambekts age as well as mileage can cause failures ? mine was 13 years old even tho the mileage was low ...re handshake I must have a good one because to be honest it feels smooth to me no vibration at all through the bars )

Haha Graeme funny as. But mine is in the care of Maz as we speak. Was a 4.5 hour public transport journey home(dirty, dirty public transport) but by the looks of the updates and phonecall Maz and Pete have been making...I am confident its all worth it. Can't wait to use the dreaded P. Trans again to go and pick her up!

Ah thats awesome Wobbly! Love Cornwall. If any of the northern rides tickle your fancy next year plan ahead and post your plans. If I'm not working, I'm in. Otherwise, we'll see you somewhere in between.
