I don't think the Uly is for me. I'm after a weekend fun machine for a 1-2 hour run at a time. Maybe to work and back occasionally.

Hi Tav,

the XB 12R Firebolt and 1125R are better for a longer rider,
i'm 1.90 m and am quite comfortable on both of them.

Perhaps some background will help. Buell started ("ish" before I get my backside kicked) by making the tube framed models built around the 1203 cc HD motor. These are the "tubers": S1 for full on antics and purity: M2 for a bit more comfort and a pilion seat that might actually works: X1 for fuell injection.

Then came the XB series, started by the XB-R. A 983cc "streetfighter" that Buell declared would be large enough (in capacity) that they would not have to go bigger. About 14 months later they came out with the XB12 series: a "12" version of the R, including several derivitives. This includes he pic you posted.

Up until now. we are all on wheezy, air cooled, HD lumps.

The 1125 is radically different - Buell walked away from HD and imported a new powerplant.

We end up with three generations - the tubers running the 1203 HD motor, the XB series and the 1125.

The xb's have aircooled engines, the 1125 are liquid cooled Rotax engines.

it has a Buell lump..that has similar to sportster casings
but lots of much nicer bits inside
& around 3 times the power of a sportster too :twisted: :twisted:

I stand corrected. This is why I don't spanner, I know feck all about it :run: I just assumed, as you do, that it was a ponced up HD engine.

Buell was a fully owned H-D company from 2001, so you could say the XB motor is a ''H-D lump'' but it shares virtually zero parts with the Sportster motor which the tubers use as a base and was only ever fitted into the XB range ie. never used in any other bike.
The XB power unit was built down to a price and contains some very expendable parts......power output is similar to the 'tubers'.

Does the XB12 like in my link sound like a Harley? I'm presuming the 1125 sounds more like an aprilia if it is a Rotax?
