Problem is that you're a million miles from me mate. If you were closer I'd be more than happy for you to fix it. The reason I let Beakys have it was that there's no one else locally that wanted the job. Anyone local to me you can suggest mate?

I couldn't do anything for you anyways at the moment as I no longer have premises :( ......and not exactly a million miles

Only other place I would recommend in the whole of the UK is Black Bear H-D in Newmarket

Newmarket is still too far away. Contemplating just sticking it back in the garage then.

Are you honestly saying that there's not a bloke anywhere in the South of England that can carry out a competent service on a Buell?

I am based in Portsmouth, so can't get much further south... I've made the trip on a number of occasions to Black Bear to get my XB serviced. I have also ridden my Blast up to Maz in Manchester to get it re-furbed....and to mainly fix someone else's fuck ups!!!

I would rather travel to get my bike properly worked on with confidence, than to throw money away for someone to bodge/fuck it up! Been there, done that :headbang:

Don't know why there are so few competent mechanics for Buells, maybe it's the same issue for other Marques that aren't your Japanese, Italian, German, etc type?

Thanks Jill. That's bloody frustrating. The bikes a non runner and I've got no transport to get it up country, so I only looked locally. None of us like throwing money away and I could do without having my bike fucked up! Making me think of just wheeling it back into the garage and throwing the bike cover back over it for the time being.

Buells are often referred to as "engineers' bikes" and it's true that many are owned by engineer types who look after their own machines (but, as in my case, don't make a habit or a living out of working on others' bikes). The fact that so many on here, who live hundreds of miles from Maz or BlackBear and don't/can't fettle their own, are prepared to make the journey up country should tell you all you need to know. I would therefore sadly concur that, for now, no-one fixing your X1 is a better option than Beaky's 'fixing' it... Hire a trailer/van and make the trip.

Yep - Matron is lucky(?) enought to own an XB and an X1. She will only let Maz work on them, we bring them down from Central Scotland.

IBIS had a feckin nightmare with those guys, he spent a lot of dosh with them and was no closer to a fix. Maz sorted it. If you can't get to Maz when he re-opens, get to Blackbear.

If you are a member of the AA, or similar, get the bike far enough away from home and then call in a breakdown. Your destination can then be one of your choice :)

Trust me, this is good drills. It will save you money in the long run and you'll love the results. :yup:

I had my X1 couriered up from Kent to Maz for about £175 by a very reputable firm and it arrived in excellent condition and was obviously well looked after during the journey.

I am lucky enough to have a 2001 X1, but we are still spending a shed-load of cash on having work done to make it better.

The jobs that I have on my list for Maz to start on when he gets into his new Emporium are:

Full US gearing & Speedo change
Full Albert race system
Lucky Hands Oil Pump Drive
10K service
sub frame polish and a tart up of the already shiny swingarm
cam case cut away
new timer & Derby covers.

The bike has already had a shed load of work done on it, like a Spondon engine mount, hugger and lugs removed and other stuff that I can't remember.

I am also going back to standard handlebars/mirrors and bar ends, as these had been changed by a previous owner.

I know nothing about engineering/mechanical stuff, but even I would suggest that you look at the gearing, engine mount and oil pump drive before bothering with the bling stuff. I am sure someone will be along to call me a peach in a minute, but there is my tuppence worth.

You are throwing good money after bad, if you let anyone other than Maz or Jon at Black Bear touch your Buell. You will save the cost of the courier immediately, if you deny access to it to that other bunch of jokers.

Oh, and welcome!!

Thanks Matron. To be honest I was just expecting the mechanic to just make the changes needed, (oil pump, bearings, mounts, etc), while doing the other work and just give me a bill. I've always been of the opinion that everyone should have the benefit of the doubt and that there's always 2 sides to every story though.

...oh, the naivety of that statement!

With all due respect dear chap, remove your rose-tinteds and listen to the hard won advice all these experienced people are giving you... you really do ignore it at your peril.
