Hello all. Just joined.

Bought my 1999 X1 Lightning (blue & white racing stripe), back in 2000 but hardly used it and it's been SORN for the last 5 years. Just decided to get it back on the road and have a few mods done to it.

Would appreciate any advice on what work I should be doing to it, and what bits I can get off the shelf that fit etc! :-)

Looking to fit twin spots, bikini fairing & short tail unit.

Waiting for a Forcewinder, a catch can, and a damper to arrive from the U.S.

Tom.

Welcome Tom.

Some info here if you haven't already seen it. http://www.thex1files.com/

If you haven't run your bike for a while you may find the fuel pump seized. It doesn't like newer fuels and standing unused.

Cheers chaps. Really looking forward to getting it back on the road again.

As well as the Forcewinder, catch can & damper, I've also ordered an Alcantara seat unit, carbon tank panels, Renthal ultra lows, billet grips, small bar end mirrors, an LED integrated break light/ indicator unit, Oxford eyeshot indicators for the front, and a replacement ali under tray from R & R. Already have a V&H can fitted. Mainly all cosmetics, but should bring the beast up to date.

Interested in some of the engineering that the bike may need. What needs replacing?

The bikes with a local well known independent in Surrey at the moment so expecting a call sometime soon with a list of mechanical bits he'll want to change.

Shame you're a bit too far North for me Maz or I would have asked if you'd like to take this project on for me.

You're new here aren't you, Tom? lOl Your welcome from t965m express the wishes from all here but you will soon learn that Maz detests bling  What he would be saying if he had half my political savvy is that you have just spent a load of money on flash bits that will do nothing for your bike and haven't even considered the basics. Sadly rather than going to someone like him who really knows his stuff you have taken it to an independent Harley-Davidson specialist who probably has a really poor track record with Buells.

If the name is reminiscent of something that a bird eats with then you had better PM Ibis pronto . (Think it was him who went to a Surrey specialist then ended up with :maz: )

(Other Buell specialists are available lOl )

Steve

Thanks Steve. Personally I think that the flash bits will do everything for the bike mate. The reason I haven't ridden it in years is because I think it's an ugly, lardy bastard, smothered in tacky plastic, and needs the after market bling to make it rideable.

Agree with the bit about the mechanic though. I'm not a mechanic, and have no interest in mechanics or doing a DIY job so entrust this to those that are. That's why I've set a pot of cash aside for the work. I would expect Beakys in Dorking to do a reasonable job, but If they don't then I'll feed that back.

Appreciate the advice though mate.
