Greetings, Andy, nice choice of scoot.
Everyone will give their opinion on running in, many will say to ignore the manufacturer's guide because they tried something different on their own bike and it hasn't blown up yet. However, remember 2 things.
1) The manufacturer doesn't win sales by telling you to take it easy, they are working with an engine which was, at heart, designed 60 years ago so they might have a reason for their recommendations.
2) It's your bike that you might be screwing up
So, here's my opinion. Take it easy, don't rev beyond what Buell suggests but don't labour the engine at low revs either. And don't just sit at one engine speed / load on a motorway. The running in recommendations should allow you to get up to 80-odd, make a trip of it and have some fun getting there.
