Says the Police officer to the Buell rider :D
Why says the Buell rider to the police officer :D
Because the letter B has sticky out bits it should be the same as my police car.says the Police officer to the Buell rider :D
What that one there with the sticky out bits on its B says the Buell rider to the Police officer
Well maybe the fonts ok but the Gap between the X and 1 is illegal says the police officer :D
But I'm not going to measure it as i've been doing this for years and can tell it's wrong .....but seeing as its only warnings tonight there's no point in me getting my ruler out

Not necessarily so, the correct font for his reg (presuming he's got a fairly new car, will be 79.5mm high 'charles wright' font, DVLA states for 'pre 2001' registrations (NOTE: registrations not manufactured dates) and it can be different.

I've had this on a private reg and they give up when you challenge them. I was told once that the reg had to be a standard size, that's bollocks, the law states the reg plate can be any shape/size as long as there's an clear 11mm border around the letters, reflective background, charles wright font at 79.5mm high, black letters at least 50% black and country of origin flag with plate manufacturers postcode on plate.

However, if you get three warnings they'll take your plate and Q reg the bike

My plate is legal....it has legal font / spacings/ letter sizes/border size/ bs number /makers id etc
that was the reason i argued with him lol.......but he kept changing the reason why it was illegal lol

Ali (Bali) and myself were at North Berwick a couple of weeks ago enjoying an ice cream and we spotted an officer at the back of our bike with the ruler out measuring the number plates.
He said to us that the plates were illegal and I said why knowing fine that the size of the letters etc were to small.
He siad the size of the letters were fine but they were illegal because there was no kitemark on the plates.
I said I didn't know there needed to be a kite mark and when did that law come in and he said last century.
Anyway he said we should change them as we might come across a cop on a bad day who will charge us but he wasn't going to.

So why did he bother measuring them?
Who knows but we didn't get done anyway and I'm just glad he didn't hear them both running.

And theywonderwhy no-one likes them. As long as your not taking the piss whats the problem. If he needed a ruler then I would say your not taking the piss.

Once remember going to Castle Coombe in the late 90s andthere was a bike copper taking digital pictures of number plates after looking the bikes over.I asked him what he was doing and he told me to go away. Some other people came over and asked him the same question and he admitted that it was so that they could pull them as they left the circuit and wouldn't waste officers checking bikes that were legal whilst others that weren't sped past.He was looking for those tiny plates people used to have and not for road use cans etc.

I'm sure you all realise there is a major push, government driven, on number plates at the moment. Its all due to the roll out of further ANPR linked cameras across the country.

Better get used to it folks....

I have now got a letter from the plate makers confirming the plate they supplied me does indeed comply with the law and also a mobile number for the officer to ring to chat to them if he stops me again.
Letter is now carried with me lol

"And you sir, are ugly. Tomorrow, I shall go to Halfords and purchase a new, legal plate, you however, will still be ugly."

(This is why when we were young and we got stopped by the po-lice my mates would never let me speak. At all.)

:D

I suggest that you leave the letter at home

When plod pulls you again say "Go on then... summons me for the offence"

Get summonsed...go to court...defend yourself...produce letter...win case...claim costs for day off work, inconvenience, administration fees so on and so forth

Walk away from court with middle finger proudly extended ;)
