I would like to get hold of a spare tank, in as good condition as possible. I have a bit of a fetish for spare tanks (I have 2 NOS tanks for my Speed Triple and 1 for my Legend), not sure whether its driven by my fear of not being able to repair crash damage or paranoia about modern fuels wrecking tanks but I do feel the need......

Plus I recently "tooled up" for 2 pack spraying (air fed mask, 3 stage filter, etc). I have done a couple of tanks but I need more stuff to practice on so I would like to work towards having a spare set of bodywork all sprayed up for the Cyclone.

Cheers

bp

have a look on the forum, i cant find it but
...Buell tanks breath through the high quality (read shite) plastic they are made of
this can cause bubbles under the decals ,many places claim they can
cure/seal the tanks to prevent this occurring....buyer beware snake oil etc.
it can be done but be wary

IME, once a tank has lifted it's paint, it will do it again no matter what you do or seal it with.

Holt Works ali tank is the only fix.

At least you'll get plenty of use from your spray gear with Buell petrol tanks lOl
Just make sure you keep enough of the colour paint used for next time.

I think you are right, once the paint has bubbled on the outside, that means fuel is in the plastic itself and sealing the inside surface is all very well but you will still have that fuel in the plastic waiting to seep out and who knows how that will happen or how long it would take, or how many re-sprays....

I suppose you could vaporise the fuel out of the material by baking the tank over a long period in an oven but that probably doesn't work too well with a plastic tank. :rotfl:

I have tried sealers a few times over the years on metal and glass fibre tanks and never found one that worked satisfactorily anyway.
