I shouldn't worry about it. I'm sure you've been looking for some time for one and you've been watching the prices and remember if you didn't buy this one, someone else would have and you'd be back to square one...

When I bought my S1, I probably looked for 9 months, then imported one from the states.

They all need money spent on them, you are just buying the foundations for a long and lasting relationship...

Where are you located gripperod?

Hello everybody, I have just joined the forum as I have just bought my first Buell. I pick it up on Thursday.

Unfortunately I stumbled across this thread and it appears I that what have bought a shit £1500 overpriced entry level tuber with shit brakes, shit carb, shit exhaust, shit shock, shit air filter and shit isolators (not sure if I have missed anything) and will need to spend more than another £1000 to get it "sorted"

You can imagine I am feeling pretty pleased with myself just now........

I had joined a US Buell forum before i purchased the bike (I hadn't found this one) and didn't get quite the same feedback. I have seen the bike in the flesh and it is even better than it looks in the photos and the advice I got was it was worth paying extra because of the condition it is in.

Not sure how i feel...................

Enjoy what you have, perfection is in the eye of the beholder.....Welcome, I am sure opinions will be banged around like a fart in a wind tunnel but you just enjoy what you have 8-)

:yt:
There probably are a few things that need doing sooner rather than later, but for the moment as and when the weathers ok enjoy, by all means have a good search , and read on here for things to do and when and why to do them . :yup:

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I sort of know what I am getting into, I owned an early 90s Ducati when their quality control was at its lowest ebb, but if you sorted the known faults and stayed on top of the required maintenance they were actually pretty good, and had so much character than some other marques.

My immediate plan for the Cyclone in order of priority is

Immediately
1. Check oil pump gear and upgrade if required
2. Check primary tensioner and upgrade if required
3. Change that air filter!!!

within a couple of months
4. Upgrade front steady and iso bolts
5. Source latest spec rear Isos ready to change when required
6. See if Maxton can build me a rear shock (have used them before, the kit on my 94 Speed Triple is sublime)

Wasn't going to do anything with the disc or exhaust bracket unless they started playing up

Have I missed anything crucial?

Enjoy it, M2's are the best.

Some things are a priority, some things are not and something's are personal taste.
Once you've put a few miles on it I,m sure you'll realise why people always seem to regret selling
Ride it, enjoy it and make it yours :yup:

Enjoy the bike and take everything with a pinch of salt; especially chips.

No, you've got it figured out. While what Maz pointed out has been upgraded by Buell, what you have works just fine for now. I've had older gen Buells that looked like everything was sourced from the local hardware store bins and it didn't kill me. However, Maz is the guy to go to for getting shit done properly. Wish I had the likes of him where I am. I'd only have to put up with a reaming one visit then he'd be happy again.

An M2 is one of those bike that can really last forever. I've seen many examples of M2s over 1xx,xxx.

First look back and this thread has turned into the funniest thing I have read in a while!

Really chuffed for you buddy! Liked it the first time I saw it. Unmolested, low mileage, what more could you ask for! (Maybe remove the spike :-).

Former Ducati owner myself and you remember how you used to sit in the garage and gaze at it? You will do it more with the M2 as I have found over the winter. New to the M2 myself but first ride and I was hooked.

Cheers Steve,

The bike was delivered half an hour ago (a day early) and the spike has already been off to see if I can junk the spike but the air filter element is kind of integral to the spike so I have just ordered a K&N and a filter wrap, 2 day delivery - should be here for the weekend. It is forecast to be blowing a hoolie and heavy rain tomorrow here in the NW so I don't think I will get out. :sad1:

And just to show there is no hard feelings, I called in on Maz today and made a not insignificant dent in the "more than £1000" needed to get it sorted. :rotfl: Mind you, not sure whether to put the upgraded front engine mount on the bike or leave it on the coffee table in the lounge, it is a thing of rare beauty!
